Costuming from the Hip was created and published by a talented
team of people.

John Scharmen, illustrator
John claims to be a San Diegan, though he's really originally from Riverside,
California. He graduated from UCSD in 1992 with a degree in studio art.
In 1993, he somehow stumbled into the occupation of video
game artist/animator at Sony where he's been working ever since.
He has been drawing since fourth grade, and in the anime style
since 1985. His interest in anime
got him interested in Japanese music, language,
culture, and history, roughly in that order. In 1989, he spent a year in
Japan on an exchange
program and he has been wanting to go back to visit ever since.
He secretly would like to produce a comic
book in the anime style, if he could figure out a way to do it and
still eat (or figure out how not to eat).

Brian Crites, illustrator
Brian was raised in Sacramento, California, served in the United States
Marine Corps, and was a peace officer for the State of California.
Brian resides in Northern California with his wife and step daughter. Both
Brian and his wife are members of the Ottoman Traders and the Clan of the Ax
Fransisca (Renaissance guilds). Brian enjoys creating art, making his
own swords and other weapons for Fair, and re-enacting many eras of
history.
Katherine Parker, illustrator
Katherine grew up in various overseas countries including South Korea,
Australia, and Turkey, where she was lulled to sleep by the Mevlevi Dancers
(Whirling Dervishes). She received a B.A. in Studio Art & Art History
at UC Davis and is continuing work toward an M.A. at the same institution.
Her thesis focuses on Degas' racetrack images. Her spare time is taken up
by her horse and dog and painting pictures of them and their kind.
